Kaspersky Internet Security 2014

Kaspersky Internet Security 2014

Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 returns as a top-notch security suite with improved overall performance, a slight interface refresh, and new countermeasures against zero-day attacks.

Since last year's release, Kaspersky 2014's design comes with minimal changes to its interface. The mobile-style drawer also makes a return, which reveals extra tools like parental controls, network monitoring, and application controls.

The extraneous arrows and flap-like carousel buttons have all been consolidated into a single-drawer button, following Windows 8-like behaviors. The main interface has been stripped down even more for a much cleaner, uncluttered look.

Menus and settings have also gotten a much more approachable overhaul, as well; the Protection Center, for example, now looks less archaic thanks to having its older radio buttons and checkboxes replaced with a more modern toggle setting for each security function.
New in 2014 is the Application Control Center, a hybrid between a system monitor and task manager. From here, you can monitor and control what applications and process run, to reduce load on your CPU and memory usage. At first glance, it looks like a rebranded task manager, but Kaspersky incorporates a Popularity cue that indicates a level of reliability, presumably from other Kaspersky users.
Under the hood, Kaspersky also announced incorporation of an in-house built protection technology called ZETA Shield (ZETA = Zero-day Exploit and Targeted Attack). Originally unveiled last year in Kaspersky Labs, the latest version indicates its eventual trickling into the consumer versions of the company's flagship security suite.
Kaspersky is known for taking its sweet time when it comes to system scans but this year's version definitely marks a huge speed boost. Initial full scan took about 18 minutes and 43 seconds, vs. the 1 hour and 32 minutes from last year. Rootkit scans also completed at a respectable three minutes flat, vs. the eight minutes and 32 seconds scan time from version 2013.
Boot up times averaged out to be 45.43 seconds, which is slightly faster than our initial testing setup. Shut down times took a hit, averaging at 11.48 seconds vs. the normal 7.8 seconds. Cinebench scores were minimally impacted at 17147. All numbers are improvements across the board vs. last year's Internet Security edition, meaning that Kaspersky 2014 is just about in every way faster, smarter, and cleaner than its former self. That's saying something.
As of yet, both AV-Test and AV-comparatives.org have yet to post results for 2014. Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 has consistently maintained high marks in AV-Tests.org's evaluations, with perfect 6/6 scores in Protection and Usability, and a commendable 4.5/6 in Performance. However, we'd expect these numbers to go up once AV-Test releases their own evaluations of version 2014.
Kaspersky Internet Security maintains its price at $79.95, which seemed steep last year, but this year's scores indicate a well-rounded update that continues to highlight corporate level security in the hands of consumers, as marked by ZETA Shield's making its way into this year's products. Last year's excellent Safe Money features are also still present, giving you some peace of mind when logging into your financial accounts via the sandbox browser. Both Anti-Virus and Internet Security should provide ample protection for your PC and minor footprints.

uTorrent 3.3.1 build 29963

Download uTorrent 3.3.1 Build 30017

uTorrent 3.3.1 Build 30017

BitTorrent - 1.08MB (Freeware)
µTorrent is a small and incredibly popular BitTorrent client.
Micro-Sized Yet Feature Filled

Most of the features present in other BitTorrent clients are present in µTorrent, including bandwidth prioritization, scheduling, RSS auto-downloading and Mainline DHT (compatible with BitComet). Additionally, µTorrent supports the Protocol Encryption joint specification (compatible with Azureus 2.4.0.0 and above, BitComet 0.63 and above) and peer exchange.

Resource-Friendly

µTorrent was written with efficiency in mind. Unlike many torrent clients, it does not hog valuable system resources - typically using less than 6MB of memory, allowing you to use the computer as if it weren't there at all. Additionally, the program itself is contained within a single executable less than 1 MB in size.

Skinnable and Localized

Various icon, toolbar graphic and status icon replacements are available, and creating your own is very simple. µTorrent also has support for localization, and with a language file present, will automatically switch to your system language. If your language isn't available, you can easily add your own, or edit other existing translations to improve them!

Actively Developed and Improved

The developer puts in a lot of time working on features and making things more user-friendly. Releases only come out when they're ready, with no schedule pressures, so the few bugs that appear are quickly addressed and fixed.

CamStudio Free Screen Recording Software

CamStudio - Desktop Screen Recorder

What is it?
CamStudio is able to record all screen and audio activity on your computer and create industry-standard AVI video files and using its built-in SWF Producer can turn those AVIs into lean, mean, bandwidth-friendly Streaming Flash videos (SWFs)
Here are just a few ways you can use this software:
  • You can use it to create demonstration videos for any software program
  • Or how about creating a set of videos answering your most frequently asked questions?
  • You can create video tutorials for school or college class
  • You can use it to record a recurring problem with your computer so you can show technical support people
  • You can use it to create video-based information products you can sell
  • You can even use it to record new tricks and techniques you discover on your favourite software program, before you forget them
“Nick, here is what I think I'll do; rather than fork out the $300.00 bucks for [CENSORED], I'll just keep using CamStudio.
“I am a self-employed consultant that works in the public safety community (cops, fire, ems, dispatch etc). What I have planned is to use CamStudio to capture on screen video for training vids.
“Thanks for a great product and your help!”
Joe Borgione
www.AlpineGeographic.com

Don't like the sound of your voice? No problem.
CamStudio can also add high-quality, anti-aliased (no jagged edges) screen captions to your recordings in seconds and with the unique Video Annotation feature you can even personalise your videos by including a webcam movie of yourself "picture-in-picture" over your desktop.
And if all that wasn't enough, CamStudio also comes with its own Lossless Codec that produces crystal clear results with a much smaller filesize compared with other more popular codecs, like Microsoft Video 1.
You have total control over the output of your video: you can choose to use custom cursors, to record the whole screen or just a section of it and can reduce or increase the quality of the recording depending on if you want smaller videos (for emailing to people, for instance) or you can have "best quality" ones for burning onto CD/DVD.
But all of these features would be worthless if CamStudio wasn't easy to use ... fortunately that's not the case. CamStudio can be learned in a matter of minutes and comes with a comprehensive built-in helpfile, so if you do manage to get stuck, you can simply hit "Help" and get the answers you need.

So where can I get it and how much does it cost?
You can download and use it completely free - yep - completely 100% free for your personal and commercial projects as CamStudio and the Codec are released under the GPL (for more details on this license, click here.)
There are no royalties or any monies to pay - although if you do use it for a commercial product, I wouldn't say no to a copy of whatever you produce
